Government: Concern that Labour's focus on children will be lost in third term

Campaigners are concerned that children's issues could slip down Labour's agenda as its third term in government develops.

Rita Sutton, regional executive officer for the Pre-school Learning Alliance, said it was still "very early days" for the Government's 10-year childcare strategy, launched last year, and said there was concern that "other issues will get a much higher profile".

"How it is rolled out is going to be key and the funding that goes with that," she added. "It is no secret that we have been concerned about how funding will be rolled out to support it.

"There has been a strong focus on early years and childcare and we hope that remains. What would be disastrous would be to lose the high profile it's had.
