Physical development is a prime area of the Early Years Foundation Stage because it is a vital element of children's learning, enhancing social, communication and other skills, and supporting all-round wellbeing.
Not every child likes every type of physical activity, so you need a range of activities indoors and outside. Small two-year-olds get tired easily, so encourage stop-start activities with a rest in between bursts of activity. They run using their whole foot at first, but gradually start to use the balls of their feet and eventually run on tiptoes.
