Good Idea: Resources help teachers support bereaved children

Winston's Wish aims to support adults and teachers through school support packs to help children and young people cope with bereavement.

Name: Primary and secondary school bereavement support packs

Provider: Winston's Wish

A charity that supports bereaved children and young people has developed resources that are helping schools in the North West to support pupils to better cope with the loss of a friend or loved one.

Winston's Wish developed the bereavement support packs for both primary and secondary schools, which have been distributed in Bolton and Wigan.

The packs contain guidance into different types of death, so the loss of a relative or friends can be openly talked about with a child. There are five guidance books within the primary school pack as well as two children's stories, a character for bereaved children and an activity book. The secondary school pack contains an additional book for supporting bereaved teenagers.
