Funding: London voluntary groups fear cuts

1 min read
Children's organisations could lose out under proposals to cut by a third funding for groups that work in more than one London borough.

Voluntary groups funded by the Association of London Government haveexpressed shock at plans to reallocate 9m of the 28mannual grants scheme from cross-London organisations to localauthorities.

Tania Pouwhare, co-chair of the Voluntary Sector Forum, said: "There isno way individual boroughs could reproduce the vast range of servicesfor children that are provided on a cross-London basis. We are alsoconcerned that the promise to reallocate this money to local level mightbe hollow."

Contact a Family, which supports families with disabled children, couldbe affected. The charity expressed concern that no one borough wouldfinance its London regional manager, who is currently funded by theassociation, because she works on pan-London issues.
