The association, which caters for 75,000 young people each year, lost about 140,000 as a result of council cutbacks made when a Liberal Democrat and Conservative coalition collapsed. Full- and part-time workers are currently continuing the service as volunteers while applying for other sources of funding.
Councillor Andy Connelly, cabinet lead for leisure at the council, which is now run by Labour, said: "We voted on the decision to give the association some breathing space until it receives funding from other sources. We recognise that it is a vital organisation to Leicester."
The extra funding has come from the regeneration and culture department.
