Free running site looks for new home after council rejection

1 min read Youth Work
The organisation behind attempts to build the UK's first dedicated free running site for young people in East Sussex, has begun talks with other councils after it was refused permission for the site.

Regen, the regeneration project for Peacehaven and Telscombe, had hoped to build the site in the town of Telscombe Cliffs (CYP Now, 7-13 May). But last month Telscombe Town Council derailed the plans by voting against proposals to build the site in Chatsworth Park, a local beauty spot.

Liz Lee, chair of Regen, told CYP Now the town council's decision had disappointed young people but she was now holding talks with other councils in East Sussex about an alternative location for the site. She said talks were underway with Brighton & Hove City Council, Lewes District Council and Peacehaven Town Council.

"Telscombe Town Council kept citing the noise issue, which was something we had tried to address from the beginning," she said. "It's not like skating where there's noise and music - it's not a noisy pastime. They voted against Chatsworth Park being the site but why didn't they say that in the first place? It would have saved a lot of effort."
