Britain's first free running site planned for Sussex teenagers

1 min read Youth Work
Young people in Sussex are hoping to get what is believed to be Britain's first ever site dedicated to free running off the ground.

Peacehaven and Telscombe's regeneration project, Regen, is behind plans for the site, which would allow young people in the East Sussex area to get involved in the high energy activity.

Free running, or parkour, is the practice of jumping large distances or heights between buildings or from railings. The activity recently featured in adverts for the BBC and the latest Bond film, Casino Royale.

The site is planned for Telscombe Cliffs, near Peacehaven, and organisers believe it will be the first of its kind in Britain.

Liz Lee, chair of Regen, said the idea first came about two years ago after a youth festival. "We had some parkour boys from Southampton doing demonstrations and workshops and all the young people loved it," she said. "After that some carried it on and started going to the gym to learn how to fall properly. They said they wanted a dedicated area so we are looking to give them one."
