The studio schools model is designed to engage young people who are not suited to conventional school environments, by offering practical business and enterprise learning.
It was developed by the Young Foundation as part of a pilot scheme funded by the previous government. Two schools using the model are set to open in September.
But David Nicoll, chief executive of the Studio Schools Trust, of which the Young Foundation is a partner, said he now hopes to set up a studio school in every local authority and in some cases use free schools' legislation to do so. He suggested each school could take as little as one year to set up.
