Flagship youth centres delayed

1 min read Youth Work
At least three of the government's flagship Myplace youth facilities have been hit by delays and one has been put on hold indefinitely, CYP Now has learned.

The 21 winners of the £62m fast-track strand of the scheme were announced a year ago this week and were expected to have well developed plans to avoid problems experienced by previous multi-million pound youth facilities.

But CYP Now has learned the New Life Centre, Hartlepool; The Hub, County Durham; and Bradley Youth Hub, Lancashire, have all experienced delays, and the initial £1.29m plan for the Green Rivers Centre, Bloxwich, Walsall, has been scrapped altogether.

Mike Bird, leader of Walsall Council, said: "Unfortunately we have had to scale down plans to replace the building because of fears about its long-term viability, but we remain committed to bringing about real improvements to youth facilities on the site."
