Family justice: Harman discloses proposals for a Bill

Constitutional affairs minister Harriet Harman has revealed plans for a family justice Bill.

Speaking at a Care and Health conference on opening up the familycourts, Harman surprised delegates with an invitation to contribute tothe Bill.

But one delegate told Children Now: "At the moment we are stillimplementing the Children and Adoption Act 2006 and that's our urgentpriority."

Talk of a Bill comes after a Government consultation on boostingtransparency in the family court. Harman told the conference that it wasnecessary to open up the courts to the media in a way that protectedchildren's anonymity. But the Association of Lawyers for Children saidthe Government was rushing into the proposals because of high-profilespecial interest groups.
