Family Fund

What is it? A registered charity covering the whole of the UK and funded by the national governments of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It gives grants to low-income families to meet the additional needs of caring for a severely disabled child.

How much is on offer? The fund distributes about £28m each year to around 50,000 families. The value of the grant depends on the items requested in the application, family circumstances and the funding available.

What will it fund? Grants relate to the additional needs of the child and the stress of everyday life for the family. All applications are considered individually on the basis of the information provided. It could be for specialist toys, driving lessons or even a family holiday.

Who can apply? There are some differences between the eligibility criteria for each country within the UK. Applicants can check if they meet the criteria on the Family Fund website.
