Dawson, a member of the committee, said it had produced a report that was "not child-centred" after it recommended amending the Children Act 1989 to give a "statutory emphasis" that both parents should have contact with their children after they separate unless there were extreme circumstances.
"I think that's a dangerous thing to do," said Dawson. "I think the committee has really failed to understand the significance and seriousness of domestic violence and child abuse. They have given far too much credence and credibility to the lobbying of fathers' organisations."
The report was due to be released today (2 March).
