The proposal for local Cafcass partnership boards was set out in theservice's Every Day Matters consultation, which suggests numerouschanges designed to improve Cafcass's work.

The boards will bring together children's services to help co-ordinateCafcass's local work and strengthen connections between services.

"The idea is a reflection on the public policy trend towards greaterintegration of local services through the Every Child Mattersprogramme," explained Cafcass chief executive Anthony Douglas.

"We need to bring Cafcass bang into the middle of children's services toensure children in private family law proceedings also get the broadsupport from local services they deserve."

Cafcass plans to start trials of the boards by April 2006. Douglas saidthere would be a total of 10 regional trials. These regions follow theofficial English regions except for the South East, which Cafcassdivides into South East (Kent, Surrey and Sussex) and Southernregions.
