Faith-based work: Holiday camp to be turned into retreat

1 min read

The village, near Consett in County Durham, is believed to be the only place of its type in the UK and will provide a retreat for young Catholics. It will be staffed by full-time volunteers who will live on the site.

The 12-acre site was bought by the diocese for 500,000 in September.

Funding of up to 1.3m is being sought through donations and grants in order to convert a barn into an auditorium, dining room and workshops for young people.

The plans also include building two residential blocks and creating a village green.

Adult volunteers from around the world will be able to stay at the village for about 10 months to help run weekend activities for young people.
