European Union: EU sets out strategy for safeguarding

The European Union has set out how it plans to develop a strategy to safeguard children across the continent.

By the end of the year it hopes to have a single six-digit telephonenumber for child helplines within the EU. The union also says it willsupport banks and credit card companies to combat the use of cards tobuy sexual images of children on the internet.

A European Commission co-ordinator of the rights of the child is alsoplanned.
