Election News: Shout Out for Children - 4Children demands new childhood test

Parties should develop policies that meet a Good Childhood Test, children's charity 4Children has said to mark its Shout Out for Children Day today (27 April).

The charity is calling for parties to make a series of commitments on issues including children's health, play, safety, specialist support for problems, and parental support.

It wants the parties to design and run communities around the needs of children and families, and to develop high-quality "inspiring" schools, children's centres and childcare for all.

4Children is today hosting a public debate between children's minister Margaret Hodge, shadow families secretary Theresa May, and the Liberal Democrats' education spokeswoman in the Lords, Baroness Sharp.
