Election 2015 Party Policy Guide: Safeguarding and care

Conservatives

Labour

Liberal Democrats

Commentary

All parties support an expansion of fast track social worker training scheme Frontline; advocate greater protection for women and girls from domestic violence and female genital mutilation; and provide more safeguards against children being groomed online.

Other eye-catching proposals come from Labour in the form of a cross-government child protection unit, and its backing for mandatory reporting of child abuse.

On the care system, the Conservatives want to boost the number of adoptions further by establishing regional adoption agencies. The Lib Dems target tackling delays in the foster care system, while Labour focuses on boosting rights and support for kinship and family carers. The Lib Dems also think local authorities need to set out that the purpose of the care system is to provide stability and promote emotional resilience and wellbeing.
