Education: Social inclusion is key to results

Head teachers who are socially inclusive and embrace the Every Child Matters agenda will improve results, according to a study.

The soon-to-be-published National College of School Leadership studyexamined six schools based in disadvantaged areas.

Maggie Farrar, operational director at the college, told Children Now:"Workforce modernisation, extended services and Every Child Matters havechanged the context in which school leaders work. As our new researchshows, the key to successful leadership in this context is open andinclusive leadership."

Leading Under Pressure: Leading for Social Inclusion will be publishedin July.
