An Ofsted spokesman said: "The old framework did assess whether pupils are free of bullying. Inspectors will now have to look at how incidents are dealt with, whether the school provides adequate support and someone pupils trust to go to if they are being bullied. They will look at incident books and follow up with pupils."
Bullying was a major issue on the Str8 Up! Government ministers listening tour in June. More calls to ChildLine are about bullying than any other issue. And the counter-bullying unit at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, suggests up to 12 young people take their own lives each year due to bullying.
