Education News: University admissions - Care experience to be onapplication

Students applying to university will be asked whether they have ever been in care.

The move, welcomed by charities working with young people in care, meansuniversity applicants will be asked the optional question from 2008.

Gerri McAndrew, chief executive of the Frank Buttle Trust, which worksto get children in care into higher education, said she was "absolutelythrilled" with the change.

"This will improve student support services and give us informationabout the numbers of care leavers in further and higher education," shesaid.
