Education news: Specialist teachers - Ofsted report calls for training funds

Teachers of pupils with hearing, visual or multiple sensory problems are being held back by a lack of funding and support in the workplace, says Ofsted.

The Better Education and Care report found that central training was good but workplace teaching of mandatory qualifications for teachers varied.

Suzanne Mackenzie, head of education at the Royal National Institute for the Deaf, said: "We need more consistency in work placements and more mentoring."

The report also calls for funding for monitoring and support.
