The Scottish Executive survey, which looked at local authorities inTayside, found that few teachers remembered having any training on sexand relationships education. It recommended "all teachers had therequisite training to help them effectively deliver sex andrelationships education".
A spokeswoman for the executive said that it was up to those providingthe one-year teacher training course whether they decide to introduce anelement of sex education.
The report, Sex Education in Primary School in Tayside: An evaluation ofsexuality and relationships training for primary teachers, also foundthat teachers were uncomfortable with their role as sexual healthpromoters, in particular with discussing homosexuality andcontraception.
