Education news: School Uniform - Appeal ruling could cause confusion

Teaching unions have warned that a Court of Appeal ruling on a Muslim girl's right to wear a traditional head-to-toe dress to school could cause confusion.

Shabina Begum, 16, won her case against Denbigh High School in Luton after Lord Justice Brooke ruled the school had denied her right to practise her religious beliefs when it excluded her for wearing the jilbab.

The Secondary Heads Association and National Association of Head Teachers have called for clearer government guidance on school dress codes. Denbigh High School said its policy was agreed following wide consultation that included Muslim organisations.
