Anne Jago, former deputy head at Painters Ash Primary School inGravesend in Kent, clashed with her head teacher after she refused totake a child with severe behavioural difficulties on an activity trip. She told Children Now: "I suffered financial loss, a breakdown in myhealth and had my excellent school record ruined as a result offollowing Department for Education and Skills guidelines for schooltrips."
Jago had insisted it was not safe to take the child to the BowlesOutdoor Centre where children take part in activities such as canoeing, abseiling and rock climbing. She provided the centre with an assessmentof the child's behaviour, which said that the child "acts recklesslywith little or no regard for safety" and "is likely to run off". She wassubsequently found guilty of misconduct.
