The report on school meals in Cambridgeshire, commissioned by the FoodStandards Agency, says achieving healthier school meals will requirefurther spending and a review of the financial arrangements withschools.
It adds: "In addition, there must be greater investment in theinfrastructure, the skilled staff time, and food stuffs if pricinglevels are not to be increased substantially."
The report comes a week after the School Meals Review Panel estimatedthat it would cost around 486m to improve school dinners, whichis 266m more than the Government has committed to spending(Children Now, 5-11 October).
Meanwhile, a Food Standards Agency report on school meals in Knowsleyrecommends that school meals should consist of five or six differentportions on the same plate.
