The Department for Education and Skills review, published last week, questioned 1,009 children's professionals and 300 parents about the workof educational psychologists.
Those questioned told the researchers that educational psychologists'ability to deliver the Every Child Matters outcomes was being limited bytheir heavy involvement in assessing special educational needspupils.
The review concluded that reductions in the assessment workload ofeducational psychologists should give them more time to use their skillsto improve children's outcomes.
The review also called for the organisations representing educationalpsychologists and child clinical psychologists to merge.
