The professional body for educational psychologists has called for councils to retain these key posts amid the reorganisation of children's services.
Charles Ward, general secretary of the Association of Educational Psychologists (AEP), said: "Educational psychologists make a significant difference to the quality of local authority services, especially for our most vulnerable children."
The AEP has launched a policy statement setting out its vision for the management of educational psychology services.
