The evaluation looked at the impact of these centres, which are aimed atpupils who are vulnerable or at risk of exclusion.
Ofsted director of education Miriam Rosen said: "Schools with learningsupport units should ensure strategies for improving achievement andstandards are given equal weight to those for improving students'behaviour and attendance. They should also ensure teaching andcurriculum programmes help pupils develop literacy skills."
In other Ofsted research, poor teaching was blamed for much low-leveldisruption in the classroom. Improving Behaviour found making learningmore enjoyable and providing more choice within the curriculum couldhelp improve behaviour.
