In its response to the Government's Review of Public Administration inNorthern Ireland, the union backed the idea that the five educationboards should be replaced with a single authority that would manageeducation services throughout the province.
But the union said if adopted the change should not result in anycompulsory redundancies and that any savings should be spent oneducation and library services.
Chris Keates, general secretary of the NASUWT, said: "There is a clearcase for the merger. The recent funding crisis that threatened serviceprovision underlined this. One authority will have the necessary economyof scale to be more effective and efficient."
