The new fingerprint scanners eliminate the need for cash and allowchildren to gain points and prizes for healthy food choices.
Peter Atherton, head teacher at St Teresa's Catholic Primary School'said that the voluntary scheme is proving a "huge success" and thenumber of pupils taking school lunches has risen.
But the scheme could be under threat from the growing controversy overfingerprinting pupils. Last week, the Department for Education andSkills said it is reviewing guidance in this area.
For Brian Dow, senior communications manager at the School Food Trust:"With appropriate safeguards the scheme gives the school the informationneeded to promote healthy eating."
