She is expected to urge local authority chief executives to attend theone-day event on 30 November. But as Children Now went to press it wasunclear whether directors of children's services would also be invitedto attend.
One senior education source with close links to the Department forEducation and Skills said the initial plan was only to invite chiefexecutives and that some directors of children's services were "lessthan happy" at being left out of the loop.
But John Harris, director of children's services at Hertfordshire, saidit made sense to involve the top council officials. "I have no issuewith Ruth Kelly targeting chief executives," he said.
