Education News: Extended schools - Charity highlights exercisebenefits

Extended schools will be instrumental in ensuring children receivethe recommended two hours of exercise each week, a children's charityhas predicted.

4Children was reacting to an Ofsted report that found sport is oftenpushed down the agenda to make way for other priorities.

The report, published last week, revealed that many teachers in primaryschools disrupt the PE curriculum when preparing for school events andnational tests.

Graeme Cooke, senior policy officer at 4Children, said that extendedschools could link with other organisations to redress the balance. Hesaid: "With the onus on schools to extend their time, local sports clubscan support children that may be missing out."
