19.2% of primary pupils did not have English as their first language in January 2004 (11 per cent in England)

17.5% of nursery and primary school pupils taking free school meals in January 2004 (14.2 per cent in England)

1.2% of primary pupils with special educational needs statements in January 2004 (1.6 per cent in England)

0.25% of the school population excluded permanently in 2002/3 (0.12 per cent in England)

Louisa Woodley, cabinet member for education and lifelong learning at Croydon council, said: "We have excellent inclusive provision for the wide range of pupils with particular needs, including five pupil referral units for excluded pupils, two extended schools, and a children's trust pilot in our most deprived wards."
