Child protection arrangements in almost one in 10 primary schools are not up to scratch, says Wales's chief inspector of education.

Education watchdog Estyn's annual report says the shortcomings arebecause staff do not get enough child protection training or becausethey are not clear about relevant procedures.

In response, Wales's education minister Jane Davidson said she wouldwrite to all local education authorities reminding them to review theirchild protection arrangements. Davidson added that systems to identifyshortcomings and ensure action was taken were already in place.
