Education News: Black pupils - Slow progress on achievement gap

Progress in closing the achievement gap between Black pupils and other pupils appears to be slowing.

Figures released by the Department for Education and Skills show thatthe proportion of Black Caribbean pupils getting five A* to C gradeGCSEs increased by 2.7 per cent this year - compared to an increase ofsix per cent last year. And the proportion of Black African pupilsgetting top grades increased by two per cent - compared to five per centlast year.

White pupils improved by 2.1 per cent this year.

The new figures mean that Black Caribbean pupils continue to performworse than any other group with 44.4 per cent of these pupils nowgetting five A* to C grades compared to 57.2 per cent of Whitepupils.
