Education News: Autism - Schools in Scotland set targets too low

Education inspectors have criticised schools in Scotland for not meeting the needs of children with autism.

The study by the HM Inspectorate of Education suggested too manyautistic children were underachieving and the targets set for them weretoo low.

It concluded that schools should track the progress of pupils withAutism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), and education authorities must ensurestaff are properly trained in ASD.

Senior chief inspector Graham Donaldson said: "In many cases, theprogress of pupils was not tracked systematically."
