
Local authority and clinical commissioning group leaders "have worked together in a committed way" to tackle harmful delays in diagnosing autistic spectrum disorders (ASD), according to a report from Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission published this week.
Following a revisit in June 2019, the inspectorates have recommended that formal monitoring visits can be discontinued.
A 2017 report highlighted concerns by many parents and carers who said the "detrimental effect of these delays on their children's learning, development and wellbeing ‘could have been prevented'."
The area was required to complete a written statement of action after inspectors were not assured the problems were "being addressed with the required urgency or robustness".
