Education News: Admissions - Concern in Cumbria over excluded boy

Cumbria County Council has expressed concern about the plight of a seven-year-old who has a history of attacking pupils and teachers.

Education secretary Ruth Kelly last week made Cummersdale PrimarySchool, near Carlisle, accept the boy after he was excluded from aprevious school.

Kelly acted after protests from parents and teachers that they were notequipped to cope. However, it has now emerged that the pupil's motherhas withdrawn her application to the school.

In a statement the council said: "Confidential information about thecase has become known to the public, to the extent that the parent ofthe boy concerned has been approached and intimidated at her place ofwork. This intimidation has led to her withdrawing her application. Thecouncil has grave concerns that the needs of the child are beingoverlooked."
