"Young people matter," said Lewis. "Their voices need to be heard at the heart of policies that affect them. Tomorrow's adults are making decisions on their lives today. It is right they should have a voice in policies that will shape these futures."
His comments came after the launch of a progress report that summarises the department's consultations with young people during the past year.
Listening to Learn includes details of the consultation over the green paper, 14-19: Extending Opportunities, Raising Standards. The young people's views were taken on and shaped the policy document, 14:19: Opportunity and Excellence, said Lewis.
