EDUCATION: Manchester aims to engage pupils

1 min read

Organised by Manchester City Council's education department, the Ignition conference saw 300 teenagers leave their classrooms behind on 10 and 11 November.

Pep talks from self-image experts, the chance to meet the likes of Manchester City footballer Trevor Sinclair and masterclasses in DJ skills were among the attractions at the City of Manchester Stadium.

The event was designed by Pygmalion Education to increase the number of pupils achieving at least five or more A to C grades at GCSE level.

Mick Waters, chief education officer at the council, said: "We know that the students can do well in their exams. We want to help the pupils themselves believe that with a bit of extra help and a bit more self belief, they are capable of success."
