The ONS is launching a project to see how the impact of schools on the outcomes could be incorporated alongside the current measure of attainment. By measuring other factors the ONS hopes to more accurately reflect school output.
Helen Patterson, head of the education and children's team at the ONS, said it wanted to be able to expand the way that education productivity is measured: "One of the main things schools do is help children pass exams, but their role is broader than that. We are keen to measure wider school outcomes to cover some of the other skills children pick up at school."
