Education: Controversial academy to open early

1 min read Education
One of the first academy schools to cater for three to 18-year-olds is set to open a year early.

The controversial school in Wembley Park, north west London, will teach children on the same site from nursery up until they take their A-Levels. It is one of just a handful of schools eliminating the transition between primary and secondary school, which is known to cause difficulties for some pupils.

The as-yet-unnamed academy will open this September using temporary classrooms. It will have two reception classes for 60 children aged between four and five.

Liberal Democrat councillor Bob Wharton, Brent Council's lead member for children and families, said he was pleased the school was ahead of schedule. "There is an urgent need for primary school places and we're very pleased we've got the go-ahead from the government to open early."
