Education: Achievement - White British pupils left behind

White British children who struggle with reading and writing at primary school are more likely to remain low achievers than any other ethnic group, according to a Joseph Rowntree Foundation report.

The report, Tackling Low Educational Achievement, also calculated thatabout 14 per cent of low achievement was down to the quality of achild's school.

It called for more early intervention, including intensive readingsupport and improved early years services, to stop children fallingpermanently behind at a young age.
