The first girl was born in Jamaica and now lives in a flat with her mother, her aunt and her nephew.

At 13, she is the leader and takes on a lot of responsibilities in the family. She calls herself the "baby-mother" of the three.

The second girl is 14 and came to Britain with her mother from Guyana.She has high hopes for her new life and particularly loves horse riding.

The third girl is also 14. She lives with her Portuguese mother, her Angolan father and her baby sister. Her father still remembers much of the Angolan war. Although she has lived in Britain the longest of the three, she is curious about her roots and loves to hear folk tales about Angola.
