Domestic Violence: Criticism at lack of children's services

Services for children who are affected by domestic violence are "patchy and marked by insecure funding and a lack of strategic development", the Association of Directors of Social Services has warned.

In its response to a consultation from the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) on domestic violence assessments, it said there was no "shared or comprehensive understanding or agreement" within children's agencies about what services should be provided.

It said the matter needed to be addressed in a "wider context than this Cafcass policy", and warned that Cafcass was "likely to find it difficult to achieve its policy aims" without this happening.

Cafcass's draft policy, procedures and toolkit for domestic violence assessment set out a screening process for domestic violence and undertaking assessments safely.
