Disabled children: Commons launch for Treasury report

A Treasury-commissioned report hailed as a potential turning point for disabled children and their families has been launched at the House of Commons.

The report has been written by Labour backbenchers Tom Clarke and JoanHumble following a trio of public hearings in the summer. It calls foradditional funding for services to be linked to a "core offer" orminimum standards that all disabled children will be entitled to.

Speaking at the report's launch, Treasury secretary Ed Balls pledged togive serious consideration to its recommendations. He said politics hadtaught him expectations were rarely met, but that he was "not short ofpolitical courage" to get families a better deal.
