Under the scheme, funding from relevant services, including health andsocial care, is amalgamated into a budget that the recipient decides howto spend.
Three of the 13 pilots launched last week will include a "focus onsupporting young people at transition to adulthood", according to LordAndrew Adonis, special educational needs and disability minister. LordAdonis also announced that the Government would be examining thepotential for disabled children to be involved in their budgets.
The news followed the launch of the Office for Disability Issues, across-government unit to prioritise disabled people's rights based atthe Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
The office, which emerged as a recommendation from last January'sImproving the Life Chances of Disabled People report, has yet to revealto what extent it will reflect children and young peoples' needs in itswork.
