Disability: Strategy will stress learners' progress

Melanie Hunt, director of learning at the Learning and Skills Council, which is developing the strategy for consultation within the next few months, said it would also cover the creation of more flexible pathways to independence for disabled young people.

"I have a concern that in some areas, for too long, we've not thought about learners with learning disabilities progressing," said Hunt.

She cited West Nottinghamshire College, which is developing a unit for young people with autistic spectrum disorders, as an example to build on.
