DISABILITY: Campaign looks for short-break carers

1 min read

Margaret Hodge, children and young people's minister, is launching the campaign in London as part of Share the Care Week, from 22 to 28 September.

Organised by the Shared Care Network, the campaign is designed to find carers who are willing to look after young people with complex medical needs.

Vicky Jones, director of Shared Care Network, said: "A survey we produced shows that the more disabled you are, the less likely you are to get a service. Anyone can become a short-break carer because we provide full training. Young disabled people benefit from being able to broaden their horizons and do normal things, while families and siblings get a break from caring." The Shared Care Network will be launching a regional organisation in Wales this week. Shared Care Cymru aims to increase the profile of short-break care services.
