Darlaston Youth Centre, Walsall

1 min read Education Extra-curricular
What did they do? Young filmmakers from Walsall have launched an educational film exploring issues around forced marriages, peer pressure, parental expectations and drug abuse.

The group from Darlaston Youth Centre wrote, directed and starred in the 40-minute film Dictated Choices, which highlights some of the dilemmas young people face every day. They also created an accompanying resource pack for schools and youth workers.

How did it go? Walsall's lead member for children's services, Rachel Andrew, described the film as moving and extremely powerful. "I'm sure it will be used to highlight some of the most important issues facing our young people today and I am sure schools and others will consider it an extremely useful resource," she says. Youth worker Raqia Akhtar, who co-ordinated the project, adds: "I am so proud of the young people, they are inspirational role models for others."
